Carrying On the Good Fight

Many examples, and additions under comments gratefully received, of Timothy's continuing legacy of defending the faith, in this example, his son Peter Eng Hoe's Th.M. dissertation at Dallas Theological Seminary 56 years ago.

Titled An Analysis and Evaluation of the Separatist Position, it came at an awkward time for the seminary, as it held its graduation exercise in a local ecumenical church which Peter boycotted and almost didn't graduate as a result. But they sent him the degree anyway.

But that same separatist position that characterized his father's battle in the Methodist and Trinity Theological Seminary arenas and the Dallas school was to continue through the ministry of Jesus Saves Mission for the decades following.

Then Reverend Ivan Wong led the church for a short time. In 1946 I was appointed a deacon. Retracing Xiamenward ... The Clues, Obituary

The names are important, esp. in Chinese characters. In his handwriting: Based on the additional clue that Rev. Timothy Hwang attended a seminary in Nanking, Dr. C.W., a scholar on Minnan-related missions, offers this fascinating breakthrough from a couple of Chinese Who's Whos (personal communication): 黄懋庭(1901~1955)同安人。1922年毕业于南京金陵神学院,受聘于厦门关隘内福音堂传道。1924年先后在新马两地教会服务。1946年前往美国深造.1952年至1955年任新加坡三一神学院教授。事迹被收录于《厦门经济物区辞典》P277、《厦门人物——海外篇》P277 。  This says he is “from” Tongan (just outside of Xiamen) and graduated in 1922 from seminary in Nanjing. He was a preacher at a major church in Xiamen called Guanyinei (though this is sometimes called other names. This church is no longer standing, but it was along a major thouroughfare.) He went to the US in 1946 and from 1952-55 he was a prof at Trinity Theological College in Singapore (I wonder if they have any info on him). This info is recorded in a couple books (listed).  Because he was in this church, his family (fath...
